SACRAMENTO, CA – Local developer Allen Wayne Warren will officially announce his bid to run for Sacramento City Council District 2 on Sunday, Dec. 18 at Carol’s Books. The campaign announcement will begin at 3:00 p.m., at 1913 Del Paso Boulevard.
Warren, President and CEO and of New Faze Development Inc., would vie for incumbent Sandy Sheedy’s seat, a position she has occupied since 2000.
Warren, who was born and raised in North Sacramento, has hinted for the last couple of months that he wanted to compete for the District 2 seat. However, he told The OBSERVER that he wanted to make the decision under the full support of his family, including his mother, Viola Warren.
Viola Warren has already mailed out invitations to the campaign announcement event, showing that she is on board with her son’s intentions.
“I am so proud of my son (and) not just because of his accomplishments,” Viola Warren wrote in the invitation. “But because of his commitment to family, community, and opportunity. I’m even more excited about his plans to run for the newly drawn City Council District 2.”
Warren told The OBSERVER that there are “many reasons” why he is running for District 2. Moving Sacramento’s economy forward is one of them.
“I want to find ways to create and bring jobs to Sacramento,” Warren said. “With my background, I think I could help do that.”
Warren was a successful stockbroker with the investment firm of Dean Witter (Morgan Stanley Dean Witter). He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science with a minor in business administration from California State University Hayward (now CSU East Bay). In addition to his résumé, Warren played professional baseball in the New York Yankees organization.
Warren, founded New Faze Development, Inc., a real estate development and investment firm, in 1990. New Faze’s projects has totaled more than $1 billion and managed capital investments in excess of $150 million.
Allen is active in several organizations including the California State University East Bay Educational Foundation Board of Trustees, as well as a founding advisory board member for the University’s Center for College Students with Autistic Spectrum Disorders.
Also added to the list, Allen is a member of the Wells Fargo Community Advisory Board, the California State University, Sacramento President’s Board of Community Advisors, and the National Minority Junior Golf Scholarship Association Board.
Warren has received several recognitions for his philanthropy and dedication to the community, including the Robert Matsui Community Service Award and the Shining Star Award for the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame.
District 2 includes North of the American River in Del Paso Heights, Dixieanne, Hagginwood, Noralto, North Sacramento, Parker Homes, Robla, Strawberry Manor, Woodlake, and Young’s Heights.
Incumbent Sheedy will have stiff competition when election 2012 rolls around. With Warren’s hat now in the ring, Sheedy will also defend her District 2 seat against former City Councilman Rob Kerth and Kim Mack. Ms. Mack was a field organizer for Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign.
