Rowena T. Millado [rowena.t.millado(at)sacobserver.com]
Creative Director, SacObserver.com

Rowena T. Millado left the khaki-clad dot.com workforce to join THE OBSERVER Media Group in February 2001.

Rowena T. Millado

As SacObserver.com’s creative director, Millado melds her experiences in journalism and the Internet to marry technological and design concepts with THE OBSERVER Media Group’s business objectives. She does this through creative direction, content management of SacObserver.com and its microsites, business development, and marketing.

Her innovative ideas have helped SacObserver.com grow to be one of the premier online sources for the African American community in Sacramento. She has managed to expand the site to more than tripled in size and traffic growth in triple-digit percentages.

Prior to coming to SacObserver.com, Millado worked for a variety of Silicon Valley companies - from Fortune 500 to fledgling dot.coms - including the award-winning creative services departments at How2.com and Parago, Inc. Her journalism stints include the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Oakland Tribune and The Tennesean in Nashville, Tenn.

Millado studied journalism and marketing at San Jose State University, where she was heavily involved with her college newspaper and with student outreach by establishing a Bay Area-wide journalism mentor program. She was the first Freedom Forum/Chips Quinn Scholar to be chosen from San Jose State University.

She’s a member of the Asian American Journalists Association, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Online Newspaper Association.

Millado lives in Sacramento with her husband, Marcus E. Walton, and their daughter.
