Wright and the staff at the bookstore on Del Paso Boulevard
in north Sacramento hosted a friendly mixer on a whether-perfect
Friday evening recently. Nearly 60 people attended the mixer.
The special event featured drinks, food, entertainment and
opportunities to allow guests to browse and buy literature
in the cozy hub that once served as a savings and loan institution.
Food was served in the back of the building under a canopy
in the parking lot. Among the guests were local author Curtis
Alcutt, who wrote the sizzling urban fiction “Dyme Hit
List,” Del Paso Heights community activist Fran Barker,
lobbyist Mel Assagai, and oil painter R.L. Russell.
The Los Angeles-based "Forty Plus Modeling Troupe"
provided a sneak-peek of its show that was going to be performed
at the Toucha Class nightclub the following night. The troupe
is a professional modeling group of men and women who are
at least 40 years of age. Its president and founder is Marilyn
Bradford-Evans.
In addition, Adalberto McFarlane recited two poems from
his upcoming book, “Peep Game.” Bradford-Evans
also provided a couple of her favorite poetry pieces.
Wright said many more mixers at Carol’s Books are
in the works. The Forty Plus Modeling Troupe have another
show scheduled in August that will feature the Elgins.
