Historically Black Colleges or Universities provide
educational opportunities for African Americans. Most of these institutions
were established before 1965. In the past, Blacks had no other choice
but to go to a Black college. Now, many Black students choose to
continue their education in HBCUs because of comfort, tradition
and a need for self-evaluation.
