Media Institute

Out of concern for Sacramento’s under-served population, the Observer Newspapers created the Observer Media Institute, a non-profit 501c(3) organization to serve the needs of the Sacramento African American community and other target audiences.  The foundation carries out its mission through the following:

EDUCATION:

The Institute serves as an educational institute established to prepare underserved communities to be journalists, media specialists and communication professional in areas of community development and personal empowerment.

COMMUNITY AWARENESS:

The Institute enhances public awareness and empowers underserved families through information, opportunities and interaction.  Serving urban, inner city and minority communities.  The Institute inspires, mobilizes and promotes targeted groups and individuals to action.

SERVICES:

By utilizing a variety of meaningful tools and services that are intended to positively impact those served, the Institute provides:

  • Essential research to determine needs, priorities and resources available within target communities;
  • Probing examination of determined issues and concerns of target audiences;
  • Effective and relevant communication techniques that bring about trust and credibility which leads to positive responses within target underserved communities
