They planted seeds in hopes of
seeing the community grow. Members of Krazy Sac La’dz,
Inc.’s Youth Board and their supporters held a Wellness,
Fitness & Garden Expo on May 22 at New Helvetia, a local
low-income housing development.
The event also welcomed youngsters
from the Dos Rios and Seivie Circle neighborhoods. The day
was highlighted by the creation of a new garden, sporting
activities and informational tables with information on topics
such as childhood obesity, diabetes, immunizations, sickle
cell anemia and high blood pressure. Participants were also
treated to free food provided by A Touch of Elegance and dessert
from Chef Tony of Fat Cat Scones.
The Youth Board received a grant
from the Sacramento Regional Community Foundation and the
Sierra Health Foundation to organize the project. The Youth
Board is led by President Laura Branch and Vice President
Clifford Grant.
Krazy Sac La’dz, Inc., a
non-profit organization started by a group of female car enthusiasts,
helps out in the community through its charitable arm, Kids
Served N Luv. Their mission is to provide resources to young
people in need, with an emphasis on the homeless, abused and
neglected. Past events include free sack lunch distributions,
school supply giveaways and Christmas parties for teens living
in group homes.
Group founder Felicia Armstrong said the recent event was
designed to “build relationships in the community.”
Among those helping to make the
effort a success were KSL Board Chair Sandra Washington, Vice
Chair Henry Harry, Sacramento County and the Sacramento Fire
Department Engine.
