Joynes was the daughter with the spit-fire spirit. She was
lovingly known among her sisters as the practical joker and
risk taker. Her sister, Muriel, at one time joked that she
believed Joynes was the boy that their father never had.
Joynes was one of the faithful founding members of the Interdenominational
Church of God where her former son-in-law was the founding
pastor.
She was lovingly known as Mother Joynes to the congregation
where she had many “adopted” children within the
church family.
Her lap and arms were the comfort that many of the I.C.O.G.
babies were accustomed to during Sunday service while their
parents fulfilled their church responsibilities. She also
served as a Vacation Bible school teacher during the first
few summers after I.C.O.G. first opened its doors.
Joynes was called home to be with God for a much deserved
rest on December 13, 2007. She was preceded in death by her
parents, her four sisters Etheline, Cora, Muriel and Olive,
her eldest son Buddy and her husband Hewitt.
She leaves behind to revel in her memory her children George,
Pam and Brenda, her seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren,
loving, supportive neighbors, and many other family and friends.
A celebration of her life is scheduled for Saturday, Jan.
26 at 1 p.m., at the La Sierra Community Center located in
Carmichael. The celebration will take place in the Gibbons
room.
