OBSERVER STAFF REPORT
The Sacramento Chapter of the Links, Incorporated hosted
its annual General Scholarship Reception at which the chapter

school seniors of African heritage who exemplify academic
excellence and exhibit leadership potential.
The reception kicked off with an invocation from Minister
Perseus Poku, a welcome was given by the chapter President,

In addition to the General Scholarship, which is awarded
to graduating high school seniors who have outstanding academic
accomplishments and who plan to pursue higher education at
an accredited college or university, the chapter administers
the Marjorie Patterson Scholarship, which is awarded in honor
of the organizer and first president of The Sacramento Chapter
of the Links, Incorporated, and the John Marshall Memorial
Scholarship — awarded in memory of John Marshall, a
SCUSD teacher, who supervised a Sacramento Links project designed
to assist at-risk students.
This year’s scholarship award recipients exhibited
impressive academic achievement, community involvement, and
outstanding leadership skills.
This year, the chapter presented $8,400 to students through
its General Scholarship program, and $5,500 through its Achievers
Scholarship Program.
These deserving students show great promise for the future
