"Ray" Takes Home Four Image Awards

The awards keep piling up for Jamie Foxx and for the movie "Ray."

Adding to the booty are four NAACP Image Awards for Foxx for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture, "Ray" for Outstanding Motion Picture, Kerry Washington for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture, and Regina King for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.

Morgan Freeman's award collection for his role in "Million Dollar Baby" also continues to grow as he earned an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture award.

The 36th NAACP Image Awards airs Friday on FOX and is hosted by actor/comedian Chris Tucker.

Among the night's special honorees is NAACP Hall of Fame Inductee Oprah Winfrey for her pioneering work.

"Oprah Winfrey is an extraordinary woman whose work has inspired and motivated people of all races and cultures," Image Awards Chairperson Clayola Brown said." We cannot fully express what an honor it is that she is joining us so we can celebrate her remarkable life and accomplishments."

"Oprah Winfrey has set the standard for achievement - as a television icon, actress, producer, broadcast pioneer and successful entrepreneur - she is the model for others. We are proud to salute her," National NAACP Board of Directors Chairman Julian Bond said.

This year's NAACP Vanguard Award was given to Grammy award-winning songwriter and producer Prince. The Vanguard Awardees exemplify those with groundbreaking work to help others understand and be aware of racial and social issues. The Vanguard has been awarded twice before, to filmmakers Stanley Kramer and Steven Spielberg.

The visionary artist who sold more than $100 million in album sales, will make a rare television performance.

For outstanding public service, Illinois Senator Barack Obama received the NAACP Chairman's Award, a honor chosen by Bond.

"Before he could even cast one vote in the United States Senate, Barack Obama electrified the nation," Bond said. "His seemingly impossible campaign riveted the country - and his Democratic Convention speech celebrated the America we've worked 100 years to make real. We are proud to honor this man and the principles he stands for."

On January 4, Obama was sworn in as the only thrid African American elected to the U.S. Senate since Reconstruction. Obama, a civil rights attorney, has dedicated his life to public service by helping working families and children.

Previous NAACP Chairman's Award recipients include the Dave Matthews Band in 2004, actor/activist Danny Glover in 2003 and political cartoonist Aaron McGruder in 2002.
