Members of the Kuumba Collective participated in the two-day
“Uptown Art Walk” event that was held in North
Sacramento.
Under the title “Experience the Boulevard,”
the art walk was primarily hosted up and down Del Paso Boulevard,
and partly in art galleries on El Camino and Arden Way.
The Kuumba Collective, a group of African American artists
from Northern California, presented their works at the Phantom
Gallery at 1625 Del Paso Blvd.
The works on display were by Joyce Carley, Edward Carley,
Iris Diamond, Pierre Butler, Daphne Burgess, Shakiri, Warren
Spriling and Marshall Dean Bailey. The Kuumba Collective also
paved the way to allow Delgretta Brown debut her colorful
paintings.
The artists combine to present several mix mediums including
ceramics, oil painting, assemblage art, photography, graphic
art, jewelry, and handcrafted items. During the artists’
reception, the Boulevard Band “So What” played
jazz music.
The Uptown Art Walk is a cooperative effort of the Del Paso
Boulevard Partnership and the North Sac Chamber. The Art Walk
was held at 21 venues, including the Greens Hotel, in North
Sacramento.
